JAMMU, June 14: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) today registered a case and arrested a Police Head Constable for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 in Kathua district.
According to officials, the accused Head Constable Roshan Din of Police Station Kathua was investigating a case registered under FIR number 193/2025 and was allegedly demanding Rs 15,000 from the complainant for removing his name from the list of accused, even though the complainant had been providing all relevant proof of his innocence.
“The complainant chose to approach the ACB rather than pay the bribe,” officials said.
They said after discreet verification confirmed the demand, a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered at ACB Police Station Jammu and accordingly, a trap team led by a Gazetted Officer was formed to catch the accused red-handed.

“During the operation, the Head Constable accepted the bribe but fled the spot on sensing the presence of the trap team,” officials said.
According to them, the accused Head Constable threw the tainted money into nearby bushes along the National Highway near Palli but the tainted amount was later recovered in the presence of independent witnesses and seized as evidence.
A search was also conducted at the residence of the accused in the presence of a Magistrate, they said, adding that the accused is currently absconding, and further investigation is underway.
