ACB charge sheet against 6 officers

SRINAGAR, Mar 1: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today produced charge sheet against six officers of Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CA&PD) department for misappropriation of sugar.
The charge sheet was produced in a case  registered in VOK now ACB in 2014 on the outcome of a Joint Surprise Check (JSC) conducted by the Vigilance Organization (now ACB) on the allegations of misappropriation of levy sugar in CA&PD Department godowns at Gulab Bagh Shaheed Ganj, Srinagar.
The ACB on ascertaining of stock position revealed a total quantity of sugar (ground balance) weighed/ dispatched to the extent of 12571.7 quintals in Godown No. 19 as against the book balance of 16309.64 quintals shown by the godown staff in their statement resulting in the net deficit/shortage of 3737.90 quintals of levy sugar.
The ACB during the course of investigation got it substantiated that embezzlement of stock in levy sugar godowns in huge quantity i.e. 3737 quintals and 90 Kgs has taken place and that six officials of CA&PD Department were involved in it.
The accused official have been identified as Fayaz Ahmad Bhat then Tehsil Supply Officer, Altaf Ahmad Bhat then storekeeper, Mehrajudin Khan then Assistant storekeeper, Aijaz Ahmad Bhat then Assistant storekeeper, Abdul Gani Shah then Assistant Store Keeper and Ghulam Nabi Bhat son of Mohammad Bhat of Natipora, then Assistant Storekeeper. They were entrusted with the job of proper receipt, safe custody and subsequent dispatch of levy sugar and are responsible for shortage and embezzlement of the stock.
By their corrupt practices, they have caused a huge loss to the exchequer which if calculated as per subsidised rate of CA&PD @ Rs. 13.50 per kg, would be to the tune of Rs. 50,46,165 and if calculated as per market rate @ Rs. 46 per kg it would be Rs 1,71,94,340 with corresponding gain to the concerned suspects.
