UDHAMPUR, May 16: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against a teacher and a contractor for their alleged involvement in misappropriation of Government funds in Reasi.
Sajjad Hussain, then teacher and Headmaster of Government Middle School Jandreli in Zone Chassana and contractor Abdul Aziz and others, who face an FIR number 01/2025 at Police Station ACB Udhampur, allegedly misused the funds released for the construction of a school building under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) scheme during the year 2016-17, an ACB official said.
According to him, an enquiry was initiated after receiving a report from the Director of School Education Jammu.
The report confirmed that substandard material was used in the construction of the school building and that financial irregularities had taken place, he said.
During the enquiry, the ACB official said, it was found that Rs 11.50 lakh was released to Sajjad Hussain for the school construction.
“The work was executed by him through contractor Abdul Aziz without following proper Government procedures. No codal formalities were observed during the withdrawal and utilization of the funds,” he said.
“A spot inspection by the ACB Engineering Wing revealed several flaws in the building.. These included cracks in slabs and beams, incomplete electrical work, absence of cement flooring, glass fittings, and doors and windows,” added the ACB official.
Further, no cash book was maintained, and payments were made without proper documentation, he said.
Due to these irregularities, he said, the Government suffered a loss of over Rs 1.65 lakh.
The ACB official said that Sajjad Hussain, in collusion with the contractor, abused his official position to execute poor quality work and gained illegal benefits in the process.
Further investigation in the case is underway, he said.
