JAMMU, Sept 18: Expressing serious concern over the alleged autocratic and anti-student behavior of the SMVDU administration, Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has demanded removal of the incumbent Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and Dean Students Welfare without further delay.
While addressing a press conference, here today, ABVP J&K State Secretary Mukesh Manhas said that SMVDU has been going through a severe crisis as the administration was allegedly indulging in violation of the rules and statues governing institutions of higher learning.
“Suppression of the staff and its rights has been the norm. A Professor has been accused of sexual misconduct by a female scholar. There have been similar incidents of such abominable behavior by the accused, yet no action was initiated on the complaints lodged by the scholars,” he said.
ABVP leader also accused the Vice-Chancellor of destroying the academics of the university and degrading it to the level of Secondary school. “The institution that hitherto ranked in mid seventies, is today not even listed among hundred top ranked universities in India,” he said and urged the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene into the matter and get this pious institution a new competent Vice-Chancellor as tenure of the incumbent VC is already over since August 05, 2022.
Referring to the unfortunate incident of alleged suicide by a Professor in Jammu University, the ABVP leader hoped that the SIT would complete the investigation in time bound manner and bring real picture in front of everyone by hearing both sides of the case.
“This incident has left all the students and academicians in a deep shock and our deep sympathies are with the family of the deceased. We will not accept less than CBI if SIT fails in bringing the transparent view in front of public,” he said and also demanded that the University should take care of the deceased’s bereaved family as he was their only source of bread & butter.
ABVP leader also appealed all the faculty members of JU to alter their mode of strike as it has direct impact on the education of the students.
Others who were present in the press conference, included State Girls Incharge Akshi Billowria and ABVP Jammu University President Anoop Singh.
