JAMMU, Aug 19: Continuing its struggle for revocation of Urdu as compulsory descriptive paper for the post of Naib Tehsildars exam, ABVP activists today staged a `Maha-Dharna’ outside Jammu University Gate.
The protesting ABVP activists raised slogans against J&K Service Selection Board and blocked road in front of JU campus. However, their attempt to close the university main gate led to a scuffle with the JU Security staff and consequent inquiry into the episode by a three-member committee of Jammu University.
Earlier, a number of ABVP activists assembled near the JU main gate and held a strong protest demonstration seeking revocation of SSRB order on inclusion of Urdu as descriptive paper for the post of Naib Tehsildar.
Addressing the gathering, ABVP State organizing secretary Pawan Sharma strongly rejected the JKSSRB’s decision of including Urdu as a compulsory descriptive subject with a weightage of 30 marks in the syllabus of written test for the post of Naib Tehsildar. “ABVP is not against Urdu or any language but we are against injustice to student community,” he said and questioned SSRB that if there was no criteria of Urdu language for KAS, Sub Inspector, Tehsildar and even to become a Judge in Jammu- Kashmir, then why this test was being forced only for Naib Tehsildar exam.
Sharma doubted that there might be some hidden agenda of some politicians with vested interest to favor the youth of particular area and depriving thousand of aspiring unemployed youth from Jammu as well as Ladakh. He appealed the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayed for his personal intervention to resolve the matter in favor of unemployed youth of Jammu and Ladakh regions.
The protest dharna was also addressed by Rahul Dev Sharma, Abhinav Pandotra, Versha Gupta, Akhil Khajuria, Kapil Sharma, Bhawna Bharti, Naina Dogra and Kannav Sharma.
The protesting ABVP activists blocked ever busy road in front of the university and disrupted traffic movement for around one hour. However, there was some scuffle between them and the JU Security personnel when the former closed the university main gate. After heated exchange of words, there was a minor clash between them and both the parties later lodged respective complaint against each other with the Dean Students Welfare.
Later, the University authorities announced formation of a three-member committee to look into the matter and submit a report within 10 days for further action.
