KATHUA, May 22: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Kathua organised a peaceful protest at the main gate of Government Degree College Kathua here, today. The protest was attended by Pradesh Seh Mantri, Rahul Thakur and district convener, Kulbeer Singh, along with a large number of students.
During the protest, the Parishad expressed its objection to the circular issued a few days ago by the District Administration, Kathua, which restricts students from participating in peaceful demonstrations or raising their demands through democratic means.
On this occasion, the office bearers of the Parishad stated that students’ first priority should be their education, a healthy academic environment, and their safety, and ABVP has supported this position from the beginning. “If any individual, organisation, or group uses school students for political purposes, the district administration should take necessary action, and the Parishad supports such action”.
However, the Parishad also made it clear that imposing a complete restriction on all students from participating in peaceful and democratic protests on the basis of a few incidents cannot be considered a fair or democratic solution.
The Parishad believes that the development of students should not remain limited only to academics; it should also include social awareness, understanding of democratic values, leadership qualities, and sensitivity towards public issues. To prepare students as responsible citizens, their holistic development must be encouraged.
The Parishad further stated that when the administration fails to address the genuine concerns and demands of students, expressing their views through peaceful and democratic means becomes their legitimate right. A complete restriction on such participation weakens students’ expression, involvement, and social awareness.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, Kathua demanded that the circular be withdrawn immediately and that students’ democratic rights, dialogue, and constructive participation be ensured.
