MOSCOW, Sept 9:Abu Dhabi will welcome this week over 250 high-level speakers for the World Energy Congress to cover the entire energy spectrum, including energy transition to cleaner, low-carbon solutions.
The Congress, which will be held in the Middle East for the first time, is expected to gather 15,000 participants, as well as international energy stakeholders and government officials – 72 ministers and 500 CEOs.
“The 24th World Energy Congress’s theme of ‘Energy for Prosperity’ represents the ambitious and dynamic energy transition the United Arab Emirates [UAE] is going through at present. The 24th World Energy Congress will help to lay the foundations for a more prosperous energy industry ? with innovation helping to drive a low carbon economy and cleaner energy generation methods,” UAE Minister of Energy Suhail Mazrouei said at the opening press conference for the congress.
The triennial event will open on Monday with a public interview of Saudi Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman, who was appointed new Saudi Energy Minister late on Saturday replacing Khalid al-Falih responsible for keeping the OPEC+ deal on output cuts in place for almost three years.
Throughout the week, high-level officials will discuss outlooks for hydrocarbon economies, strategies for net zero carbon emissions, digitalization, as well as the role of nuclear and gas in cleaner technologies.
The business outlooks for fossil fuels will be reviewed by OPEC Secretary General Mohammed Barkindo, International Energy Agency Executive Director Fatih Birol, Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum Yury Sentyurin, and IRENA Director General Francesco La Camera.
Representatives from all major international companies, including Total, Royal Dutch Shell, Gazprom, Saudi Aramco, and ADNOC, will also be joined by ministers from all over the world, including Russia and the United States.
The 25th edition of the Congress is slated to be held in St. Petersburg in 2022.
