Abolition of Upper House

Sir,
Abolishing Legislative Council in the J&K State (now UT) is a step in the right direction. The step should have been taken much earlier as it was a drain on the State exchequer. Voices had been raised earlier also for its abolition but did not materialise into action obviously due to vested interests of the legislators.
It had become a rehabilitation center for disgruntled politicians and blue eyed boys of the political parties.
It lost its purpose the day when political parties neglected people who were supposed to occupy its chairs. There was a provision for people who had contributed immensely in their respective fields like education, art and culture etc. But these people were sidelined at the expanse of blue eyed boys.
Now with its abolition huge money can be saved for the public welfare. The move can be aptly summed as ‘Better late than never’.
