Refer write up “Shall our Lawmakers pay a thought to it” by Prof KK Gupta. Eighty percent Indian population is poor and strive hard to make two ends meet. How can India afford to pay crores of rupees as salary, perks, and subsidised facilities to Rajya Sabha members (who are not directly elected by the people) similarly crores of rupees are paid to Upper House members (MLC’s) of State Assemblies. We have about 30 states and one can imagine how much money is wasted by having this old system when we can’t afford reasonable medical allowance for Government employees, not to talk of pensioners who need much more assistance.
A poor country like India can not have a luxury like this and it is better for all Governments at the Centre, in the States including opposition parties to think about eighty percent population of India who are deprived of two times meal, educated youth who have no job, employees who do not enjoy such perks which are enjoyed by our lawmakers.
