KATHUA, Dec 3: Representatives of village Chak Jangi and Diani, district Samba along with Appu Singh, State spokesperson for the Jammu and Kashmir Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), met Dr. Anju Bala, member National Commission for Scheduled Caste here, today. Their counsel, Singh put forth the grievances of these aggrieved persons before Dr. Bala.
She said these 60 families are residents of Chak Jangi and Diani since the last 70 years of the independence and have been cultivating the ‘custodian’ land allotted to them for their livelihood. These villagers were officially allotted the custodian land for their cultivation purpose by the then Government of Jammu and Kashmir in 1950.
With the construction of the Delhi-Ludhaina-Amritsar-Katra Expressway, the land of these villagers came under the acquisition policy of the Central Government and the National Highway Authority of India.
It was submitted that adjacent to the land which has been finalized by the authorities for the construction of the junction, there lies a piece of ‘uncultivated custodian land’ and State land’ under the jurisdiction of village Jatwal, tehsil Ghagwal, district Samba. Moreover, the concerned authorities instead of using the ‘cultivated custodian land’ or the ‘State land’ for the construction of the junction can use uncultivated custodian land or State land for the construction purpose. If the authorities decide to do the same, the livelihood of hundreds of aggrieved families, which is in jeopardy, would be saved.
After, having a detailed meeting with the villagers along with their counsel, Dr Bala assured them that immediate action would be taken on their representation.
In another matter Bod Raj from Lachipur who lost his son, Sanjay Kumar in March this year also put forth his grievance. Singh explained Dr. Bala as to how the chargesheet in the case has not been filed till date. Dr. Bala assured them that the challan would be filled immediately and the provisions of the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act 1989 would also been taken care of if required in the matter.
