Sir,
Apart from three lady figurines as of Sakshi Malik, PV Sindhu , Dipa Karmakar’s spectacular show and a couple of good fights from other athletes, India’s overall performance at Rio Olympics was really disappointing. There ought to be no excuses for this. We are a nation of 1.3 billion and close to 60 percent of our population is below the age of 35. Yet we have not bagged more than 2 medals. This is a blot on the face of sports authorities and the Sports Ministry.
Also we saw how the Sports Minister there was busy in Photo ops with athletes inspite of getting regular warnings from the organizing authorities. We should take this debacle seriously. The Prime Minister talks about ‘Make In India ‘ and ‘Skill India’ , but he should first bring a change at the central level in the administration of sports, which will then trickle down hopefully. We must aim to improve our performance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and start preparing for the gold medals now. Seasoned sportspersons in the country must be asked for the suggestions on ways to improve this sorry state of the sports infrastructure.
Yours etc….
