A day after exit polls, BJP mocks at Congress

NEW DELHI: The BJP on Friday mocked at the opposition Congress for their oft-repeated campaign against Electronic Voting Machines for defeat in elections.
“Has the Congress blamed EVMs for exit poll results?” BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya tweeted in reference to exit polls that on Thursday gave BJP clear and comfortable win in Gujarat. The exit polls by TV news channels and independent survey agencies also gave BJP possible win in Himachal Pradesh.
The Times Now-VMR survey gave the saffron party 109 seats in the 182-member assembly in Gujarat as against 70 to the opposition Congress, while another exit poll by Republic TV-C-Voter predicted the ruling party walking away with 108 seats leaving only 74 for the Congress.
The survey by India Today-Axis My India Poll also gave BJP a clear edge predicting 99 to 113 seats while giving 68 to 82 seats to the Congress which put up a determined fight.The CNN News 18 exit poll sees the BJP winning at 125 seats as against 57 for the Congress.
The exit polls predicted a sweep for the BJP in Congress-ruled Himachal Pradesh.As per the India Today-Axis My India exit polls, the BJP is likely to get between 47 to 55 seats, while the ruling Congress in the state is set to lose heavily managing only 13 to 20 seats.The difference of nine per cent votes has made all the difference in the two-party contest.
The Zee News Axis exit polls predicted 51 seats for the BJP and 17 for the Congress while the News X exit polls predicted 42-50 seats for the BJP and 18-24 for the Congress.
The Times now VMR exit polls predicted 51 seats for the BJP and 16 seats for the Congress. The Congress has 36 seats in the existing Assembly in Himachal Pradesh. (AGENCIES)
