A bridge ‘in wait’ since 1988

A considerable number of people continue to suffer on account of there being no foot bridge over River Tawi at Dudu town of Udhampur and the disturbing factor about it is that more than 14000 people of the area have been waiting for the same since 1988. The indifference of the concerned authorities towards the plight of Dudu town and adjoining villages is quite disturbing.
Should in this era of fast development , modern technology and implementing various public welfare schemes mainly centrally sponsored, find people of this area of the UT resorting to primitive methods of using long logs to cross the river when it is in spate thus risking their lives? And five people are reported to have even lost their lives five years ago by employing this method as the only available means and still the administrative machinery feels totally indecisive to do something about it. The people of this area deserve to be complimented not only for the levels of their endurance on account of the hardships faced but for the fact of having collected money through their own contributions to raise a foot bridge but as bad luck would have it, the foot bridge was washed in floods.
