JAMMU, Apr 15: The executive body of All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) met here under the chairmanship of its president H L Chatta to discuss the problems being faced by the community.
The members highly criticized the irresponsible statement of some political leaders advocating for autonomy and talking about conditions of accession which has lost sense after the signing of Indira –Sheikh accord.
Mr Chatta said enough water has flown through the rivers of Chenab and Jehlum since then hence no problems should be created for future generation. Maintaining that autonomy and self rule was not acceptable to Pandits and in that event the community should be given a separate homeland within Valley with Union territory status.
The meeting criticized the Government for charging power tariff on camp dwellers suddenly this year and said that there was no logic in the same as for the last 23 years these charges were paid by the Government itself. It said as the prices have touched sky the relief holders are not in a position to pay the power tariff.
The meeting also expressed surprise over posting of teachers in Valley and termed it another migration for these hapless people. It said this policy is also detrimental to the students in camps and termed it a conspiracy on part of Government to close the migrant schools.
R K Raina senior vice president ASKPC said that Kashmiri migrants are facing a discriminatory treatment from the Government and the students of the community are deprived of the scholarships and other facilities as provided to the students of majority community in Valley. He demanded that Pandits be declared as internally displaced community.
H L Chatta demanded that retired migrant employees be given ration as per BPL rate.
Bharat Bushan Bhat, B L Handoo, Subash Chatta and Ashok Dhar were among others who attended the meeting.
