Ex-MLA proposes post Covid educational reforms

RAMBAN, June 12: Former MLA Ramban, Ashok Kumar has proposed for bold post COVID-19 educational reforms in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement, he said that for the smooth functioning of online classes at home, laptop and smart phones must be provided to the disadvantaged students (in terms of social, economic and remoteness) to cope with the contemporary education systems with rest of the world and also for reducing inequality of education among students in this unprecedented crisis of COVID-19.
Ashok suggested that there should be local level committee of both Government and private schools engaging teachers, local leaders and doctors for building appropriate decisions. The committee should comprise of education manager (Headmaster/ Principal), one officer from Administration, local Educational expert, local leader, doctors and parents to prepare and implement the working of schools during emergencies.
Ashok further said that in post COVID-19 pandemic schooling, the crucial precautions must be taken on daily basis by the concerned authorities, such as sanitization of school building and classrooms, students’ shoes and bags, disposal of used masks and providing new masks. Same instructions and guidelines should also be followed by the respective teachers and concerned authorities working with schools, he added and further said that outsiders should not be allowed to school campus without any urgent work and without prior permission from the head of the institution.
He also appealed to the Jal Shakti (PHE) Department to provide 24 hours drinking water facilities at school premises as directed by Supreme Court of India.
Ashok Kumar also suggested that in post COVID-19, Government as well as private schools should waive off three months fee of the students as many of the parents have become jobless from last three months and are under great financial crunch under prolonged lockdown. In addition, schools up to 12th class should not be opened in coming 2 months as number of positive cases in the Union Territory is on steady rise, he added.
Ashok further mention that three types of learning modes such as school, online and home learning through parents should work on rotational classes. He also emphasized upon child centric education and stressed upon the reduction of syllabus of 10th and 12th Board examination by conducting multiple choice type questions.
