JAMMU, June 12: J&K State Legal Service Authority (SLSA) in collaboration with J&K Judicial Academy organized an online awareness programme on child labour at Judicial Academy Jammu, today.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Justice Gita Mittal, Chief Justice, High Court of J&K and Patron in Chief, J&K SLSA and Justice Rajesh Bindal, Executive Chairman, J&K SLSA.
The objective of the programme was to create awareness amongst masses about child labour and to raise consciousness of public about the exploitation of innocent young minds who are subjected to inhuman treatment at a very tender age.
Ramakanta Satapathy, Manager Child Protection, West Hub, Save The Children and Mohd Sharief Bhatt, J&K Head, Save The Children, were resource persons. With real concrete experience in eliminating the child labour, the speakers highlighted the root cause of child labour and brought awareness to audience, particularly the Para-Legal Volunteers about the schemes of Government of India for child safety.
Expressing apprehension that the lifting of Lockdown may cause a massive spurt in child trafficking for labour and commercial exploitation, Satapathy emphasized constant monitoring regarding safety of children vulnerable to exploitation.
Sharief Bhatt informed the participants about what constitutes child labour and what are the occupations prohibited for working of children. He emphasized that not all work done by the children is to be targeted for elimination. Children or adolescents’ [above 14 years] participation in work that does not affect their schooling, health and personal development is generally regarded as being positive, he added.
Earlier, Rajiv Gupta, Director Judicial Academy presented welcome address. It was followed by the address of MK Sharma who gave an overview of the programme.
The participants in the programme included Secretaries DLSAs, Panel and Retainer Lawyers, members of Child Welfare and Child Protection Committees and PLVs.
