JAMMU, May 6: Acknowledging their services in this time of crisis, former Deputy Chief Minisiter, Kavinder Gupta today honoured sanitation workers with garlands and citations, here.
“Sanitation workers have been collecting garbage from whole of the JMC wards including this ward-70 in Sainik Colony,” Mr Gupta said.
Gupta was accompanied by Dr Devinder Manyal, J&K BJP General Secretary; Vinay Gupta, District Jammu President; Narinder Singh Bunty, Councillor; Lucky Puri, Councillor and Mandal president, Narinder Koki, Ravi Bakshi and Rohin Chandan.
Distributing free ration to the local needy persons, migrant labourers and sanitary workers, the members clapped for them. “We have never been recognized for our efforts like this before. It felt good to earn respect as we too have been working round the clock along with several other professionals during the curfew,” said one of the sanitation worker of the JMC.
He said they had been given masks and gloves by the department and other social workers for their safety while working.
Kavinder said their volunteers had been visiting several localities to distribute essential items among construction workers, auto/taxi drivers, street hawkers and workers who collect garbage on regular basis.
He said sanitary workers here were honoured for their contribution in keeping the surroundings clean by regularly lifting the garbage and helping people fight the global pandemic with their services. Essential items, including rice, pulses, flour, sugar, tea and soaps etc, were also given to the sanitation workers for their selfless service.
Gupta said BJP being the largest party has started the helpline numbers of its volunteers for different states and a mail id (bjphelplinejk@gmail.com).
“Since its start we are receiving calls mails for bringing back our residents from other states. Gupta said we are working round the clock and detailed state wise list of the stranded persons shall be handed over to administration for bringing them back. BJP is committed for bringing back stranded J&K resident,”added Gupta.
Devinder Manyal appealed to all the residents of the area to cooperate with the administration by adhering to the directions of the Government.
He assured the residents of continuous and unhindered service by the Municipal Corporation during the adversity in the light of the spread of the virus.
Prominent among others who were present on the occasion included Parmod Chib, Ravi Bakshi, Umesh Sharma, Ajesh Gupta, Rajeshwer Singh, Rakesh Choudhary, Dilbagh Singh and Parveen Sharma.
