Govt should constitute SC Commission in J&K: Balbir

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, May 14: Holding successive Governments in the State responsible for discriminating with the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, BJP State spokesperson, Balbir Ram Rattan, said that the NC and Congress are responsible for the plight of lakhs of people of this category.
In a statement issued here, Balbir said that the Scheduled Caste community has suffered a lot after independence in the state due to the anti-Jammu and anti-SC policies of the successive Governments which ruled the state for decades but always ignored this section of the society.
He said that the SC community has most of its population in Jammu Province and they are almost nil in Kashmir valley, which is the sole reason of giving ill treatment to the SCs by the Kashmir-centric approach of the parties, which were in power for the maximum period.
Balbir said that the most unfortunate part has been that J&K do not have Scheduled Caste Commission, while there is State Human Rights Commission, State Women’s Commission, State Backward Classses Commission etc.
He said the Commission is a constitutional authority vested with powers to recommend policy framework for the welfare and socio-economic-educational uplift of a community and in absence of SC Commission, the people of this category have no door to knock and seek justice for themselves.
It is high time that the Governor’s Administration understands the need of such a body for the benefit of the SCs of Jammu province and order immediate constitution of J&K State Scheduled Caste Commission with all the powers enjoyed by other Commissions. The SCs have already faced numerous problems for long and should be relieved of any more hardships, he added.
Balbir further said that the party stands for the welfare of the SCs and is committed to mitigate the sufferings of the Scheduled Castes in the State.
