POONCH, May 10: The inhabitants of Mendhar Town have complained that Mendhar nallah has been turned into garbage dumping point with locals disposing of waste into it and the administration sleeping over the issue.
According to the residents, what to say of people residing nallah even Safaikaramcharis use to throw garbage and other waste material into the nallah everyday and the concerned officials have turned blind eye towards the issue.
“The garbage can be seen scattered here and there and it is difficult to pass through the potholes in middle of the road, whereas the drains of the area are also not even properly cleaned,” locals alleged. They said while the park, which was made with a purpose to provide people some space to relax and stay afresh, is also in shambles as it is not being properly maintained and looked after properly.
“We complained to the authorities many times, but to no avail,” said Mohd Lateef, Shahid Farooq and Ajaz Kohli, residents of Mendhar Town. They said that local administration failed to do its job as the garbage that was meant to be picked up, have blocked the drains and the trash thrown outside the bins got washed away in the streets.
The residents appealed to the Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) to personally visit these areas and if the problem cannot be addressed at the local level, may be brought to the notice of District Development Commissioner Poonch for redressal.
