UDHAMPUR, May 3: Agitated over traffic chaos and frequent vehicular jams in the Udhampur town for hours together, locals and Congress workers held a strong protest demonstration against the Traffic Department.
The protesting people, led by senior Congress leader and State Secretary of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Sumeet Magotra, staged a Dharna at Salathia Chowk Udhampur and raised slogans against the Traffic department.
They also torched an effigy of the Traffic Department and drew attention towards the difficulties being faced by the people because of frequent vehicular jams because of no traffic management by the Department at the helm of affairs.
“From the last six months, Udhampur town has become a virtual hell due to the jamming like situation, which the Traffic Department has turned a Nelson’s eye towards the problem,” said Sumeet Magotra.
Pertinent to mention that heavy traffic jam was witnessed in the town this morning also from Omara Morh to Jakhani Chowk from 7 a.m to 12:30 PM resulting students had miss their school after remaining stranded on the road for several hours while similar was the case with some others going to their work place.
Magotra alleged that due to the vehicular jamming, number of patient of Udhampur Town and its adjoining areas had to face inconvenience in reaching the District Hospital for treatment.
“It is very unfortunate that the District Administration and more particularly the Traffic Department is unable to control the situation as they seem to be taking public inconvenience very lightly,” Magotra alleged and appealed the public in general to come out for a big protest against Traffic Department for its irresponsible attitude in connection with public inconvenience.
