JAMMU, Feb 4: Taking a tough stance against the poor performers, the Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today attached AEE of City Division with the Chief Engineer and sought explanation from two Executive Engineers of I & II City Divisions for their unsatisfactory functioning.
During his maiden surprise inspection of City Division, Gandhi Nagar and the Sitlee Division, the Minister asked the officers and employees to change their attitude and ensure work culture and accountability in their functioning. Anybody found lacking in his performance would face action as warranted under law, he warned. He said the Department has already issued an advisory after introductory meeting of the officers for improving work culture and efficiency in the offices and these instructions should be followed strictly.
He stressed the need for rationalization of staff in different divisions for smooth functioning. He said those indulging in corrupt practices and skipping duties will face strict action. Every head of the institution will be accountable for the functioning of their establishments and they have to maintain the transparency and efficiency in the overall functioning, he asserted.
During inspection of Sitlee Division and Filtration Plant, the Minister issued instructions to the concerned officers to take preventive measures for safeguarding the plant from the flood waters. He also directed for regular test checks of water in the laboratory to ensure supply of safe drinking water to the people. He also directed for displaying citizen charters in all the PHE offices to facilitate people. He directed updating of store inventories and maintainenace of all official records and proper upkeep of filtration plants and other Government assets.
