SRINAGAR, Jan 27: Minister for R&B Abdul Majid Wani today reiterated Government commitment on bringing visible improvement in the road connectivity network in rural and urban areas.
“Development of rural areas is impossible without a proper road network”, he said, adding that pressure on urban areas due to migration is directly linked to road connectivity and development in rural areas.
Reviewing the performance of R&B sector in Kashmir Province at a meeting held here, the Minister said that besides focus on major road networks the department of R&B should give added attention on improving the quality of rural urban link roads. He called upon the executing agencies to complete the taken up projects within the stipulated time frame.
“DPRs of the projects to be taken up during the next fiscal should be prepared and submitted well in time so that funds could be arranged and work on these projects gets started at an earliest”, he said maintaining that timely completion of all projects has been made bench mark of assessing the performance of each department.
To improve the efficiency of the department, the Minister reiterated that introduction of performance based promotions will be considered in future. He said that all officers are responsible for development in their areas of jurisdiction and should work hard to bring relief to general public and reducing urban rural development gap.
The Minister also received brief about snow clearance in hilly and far off places.
While reviewing the physical and financial achievement registered by R&B department, the Minister was informed that Rs. 226.57 cr have been expended out of the total released outlay of 314.84 cr ending December on various schemes under execution. As many as 42 bridges and culverts have been completed during this fiscal, the Minister was told.
Detailed review was also held on performance and achievements under NABARD, CRF, JNRM, NFD and other schemes executed by the R&B department. The Minister later also reviewed working of PMGSY and Mechanical Engineering Departments.
Commissioner Secretary, R&B Tanvir Jehan, Chief Engineers, Superintendent Engineers, Executive Engineers and other Officers of the department were present during the review meeting.
