JAMMU, Jan 23: Taking strong exception to the statements of certain top leaders of the ruling National Conference and silence of their coalition partner, the Congress, seeking plebiscite to decide the future of Jammu and Kashmir coupled with the demand for withdrawal of the Indian forces from the State, the former Union Minister and MLA Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta observed that it was a strange situation that even those persons were raising such highly objectionable voices who are under oath of the constitution by virtue of which it is an integral part of India and to question the finality of the accession is tantamount to sedition.
In a statement here Prof. Gupta said that in the past many of the leaders of the National Conference (NC) had been raising such controversial voices but after 1975 in wake of Indira-Sheikh accord the NC had resumed power on basis of finality of the accession and the Kashmir Plebiscite Front was buried for all times to come. But it sounds strange that some of the NC leaders are still raising such voices, perhaps for their internal party wrangles and differences with the coalition partner, the Congress.
He said that silence of the Congress over such statements of their ruling partners is also a matter of concern especially when they are sharing power not only in the State but also at the Centre.
Prof. Gupta questioned that the demand for plebiscite and withdrawal of Indian forces is also being raised by Pak sponsored elements and secessionists. Then what is the difference between the Hurriyat Conference leaders as also those of the National Conference and their ruling partners.
He said that all this indicated that the problems of secessionism and militancy have cropped up because of the Congress and their allies are having no Kashmir policy or they want to share power even at the cost of unity and integrity of the country.
