JAMMU, Oct 23: MJR-47 Movement for Justice for Refugees of 1947 from POK, organized a memorial function today at Jammu Club to pay homage to all those innocent people who laid down their lives in the Tribals raid of 1947 on the State.
It was on Oct 22, 1947 that Pak Army under the guise of tribals raid, attacked the state with the aim to annex J&K State, first on Muzafarabad and thereafter, Poonch & Mirpur. The small fight force of the then Maharaja Hari Singh and the general public who were totally innocent got killed. Many children became orphans, ladies became widows, many were captured and burnt alive and those who escaped could reach Srinagar via Jhelum valley road or Poonch became refugees. Even after lapse of more than six decades, having lost all their personal material belongings, language, tradition and cultural identity, these people are still living in refugees camp in Jammu and outside without any relief and rehabilitation due to apathy of successive Govts.
Suchwant Singh, chief spokesman MJR-47 conducted the programme. JS Sudan convener MJR-47 paid the tribute to the Martyrs followed by others. He announced the future agenda of MJR-47. He said MJR-47 have been observing this day as Martyr’s day, praying for the peace of the departed souls and remind the younger generation of the supreme sacrifice given by our elders. In all more than 40,000 men, women and children were massacred in the genocide. In the panels of the human history, this day, the Oct 22, 1947 will be written as Black Day forever.
MJR-47 has documented the names and identity of more than 3000 people martyred in the tribal raid and is further collecting all the data record of all the 40,000 people killed in genocide. “We have planned to raise a memorial to commemorate the supreme sacrifice given by the innocent man, women and children to save their state and honour and self respect”.
Members of MJR-47 from Punjab, Patiala, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and Haryana came specially to participate in the memorial function along with more than 300 prominent persons from the state. Dr Padam Dev Raina, Com OP Khajuria, Rajkumar Banota, Bodh Raj Sharma, Manjit Singh, Jaswant Singh, Jagbir Singh, Harjit Singh, Charanjit Singh Bhola from Kathua and other incharge of state units also participated.
Similar function was held at Miran Sahib by the same organization where tributes were paid to the martyrs.
