4 vehicles seized, 78 challaned by RTO

Jammu, Oct 23: Continuing drive to check menace of traffic violations, team of Motor Vehicles Department, Kathua under supervision of RTO, Kathua, Dr. Raj K. Thapa conducted checking of vehicles in various spots in the district.
During the drive, a total of 195 vehicles were checked and 78 challans under various provisions of Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 and rules were done. Four vehicles were seized under section 207 of Motor Vehicles Act and were sent to local police stations. In addition to the vehicles challaned, three vehicles were compounded. The violations which were detected comprised contravention of RC (Section 39/192, 24 vehicles), without pollution under control certificate (Section 190(11), 9 vehicles), deficient documents (Section 166/192 A, 3/181 and 156/192, 52 vehicles), general offences (Section 177, Section- 50/177, 29 vehicles) and other miscellaneous offences.
In addition to the challans/compounding the drivers were provided awareness and counselling in respect of various traffic laws and rules and also about the importance of safety measures like seat belt, helmet, fitness of vehicles and hazards of mobile phones while driving etc.
The other members of team comprised of Kuldip Singh ARTO, Vikas Srivats MVI and Kamal Kumar MVI.
