JAMMU, Oct 16: To commemorate and pay homage to the student martyrs of 1966 who laid down their lives to protect the dignity and honour of the Dogras, Jammu Joint Students’ Federation (JJSF) started three-day fast today.
It is pertinent to mention here that the activists of JJSF sit on three days fast every year on 16th, 17th and 18th October to pay homage to the student martyrs of 1966, namely Gurcharan Singh, Brij Mohan, Subash Chander and Gulshan Handa.
The activists of JJSF who today sat on fast at Shaheedi Sthal, GGM Science College, Jammu were Aman Singh Slathia, Atul Singh Chib, Rahul Chowdhary, Divyansh Varma and Sanjeev Sangral.
Speaking on the occasion, Pushvinder Singh (Advocate), president, JJSF said that the student martyrs of 1966 are the inspiration for them as they laid down their lives while fighting for the rights of the people of Jammu region. He said that it is due to their martyrdom that today Jammu has separate SKUAST-J and Government Medical College.
He said that the young generation of Dogra region especially the student community is required to learn about their sacrifice and should get inspiration from their martyrdom. He further appealed the student community to follow the path shown by these great martyrs and pledge to continue the fight which was started by these martyrs against the discrimination with Dogra region.
Pushvinder appealed the Dogra community in general and student community in particular to join them to pay homage to the student martyrs on 17th of October at 12:30 at GGM Science College where final of the Chhatra Shaheed Memorial Football Tournament is to be played and thereafter Dogra Langar Prasad shall be served to all.
On 18th of October Havan/Yagna shall be performed for the peace of departed souls and the fasting activists of JJSF shall be offered juice to end their three days long fast.
