National Farmers Day celebrated at Nagri

KATHUA, Dec 23: National Farmers Day was celebrated at Goond village in Nagri area of district Kathua by State Agriculture Department today.
MLA Kathua, Charanjeet Singh was the chief guest on the occasion. Several District and Sub-Divisional level Agriculture officers were present on the occasion besides Sarpanchs, Panchs and farmers.
While speaking on the occasion, the MLA lauded the contribution of the farmers for the society. He said the nation was aware of the challenges and problems of the farming community and the Government is coming out with various schemes for them including easy bank loans. He asked the farmers to take benefit of the these schemes.
District Officer of the Department  L N Dogra, SDAO Hiranagar, Sat Pal Sharma,  and JAEO, Murari Gigra, while speaking on the occasion educated the farming community about the importance of the day. They also educated them about the crop patterns, weather and agriculture related schemes.  They suggested the farmers to cultivate mushroom, cancer resistant food crop like  ginger, turmeric, leafy vegetables etc.
They also asked the farmers to grow pulses crop which are naturally sustainable because of release of nitrogen to the soil. They suggested that crop rotation helps to reduce soil erosion, improve soil quality and also reduce the risk of pests and diseases.
