JAMMU, July 16: An Army Jawan allegedly committed suicide this afternoon by shooting self with his service rifle in Khour area of Akhnoor.
“Rifleman Ranbir Singh (No 2504995F) of 15 Punjab was on Santry duty at Hamirpur Nawan Military Garrison. At around 12:50, neighbouring Santry heard sound of a gunshot. Upon checking Rifleman Ranbir Singh was found dead with gunshot wound in his forehead”, a police official said quoting Army officials.
The body of the deceased was handed over to Army authorities after completing all medical and legal formalities, he said. “Prima facie, it appears to be a suicide case but Khour police had initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC in the case”, the police further added.
