Name IIT after Mian Deedo: Rana

NAGROTA, Apr 1: National Conference Provincial President, Devender Singh Rana today sought naming of IIT Jammu after the great Dogra warrior and pride, Mian Deedo and 40 per cent jobs in its support staff for the locals.
A resolution to this effect, moved by Rana, who is also MLA Nagrota, was unanimously adopted by Mian Deedoji Birthday Celebration Committee, comprising various socio-cultural organizations at a specially convened function at Mian Deedo Devasthan, Jagti this morning.
President Rajput Sabha, Narayan Singh and president Team Jammu Zorawar Singh vehemently supported the resolution, hoping this will receive earnest attention by the Ministry of Human Resources Development and the State Government.
Udheybir Singh (Retd.Judge), Sumant Singh, Jagdish Singh, Dhanater Singh, Advocate Pawan Dev Singh and other office bearers of the Committee presented mementos to Rana, Narayan Singh and Zorawar Singh.
Mian Deedo fought for the just rights of millions and the best way of paying tribute to him would be to pass the saga of his valour and contribution to posterity”, Rana said, adding that there can’t be any better way in doing so than naming the premier professional institution of the region after his name.
Rana hoped that the Government would rise to the occasion and recognize the great contribution of the visionary warrior by taking a decision in this regard earnestly. Such a step, he said, would be recognition of the glorious Dogra pride as well. He dwelt in detail on the life and struggle of Mian Deedo and said reverence for warrior is still echoing in the folk songs sung in his remembrance by the indebted people.
“This day also reminds us of great Jammu heroes, Mian Deedo, Raja Ranpat, Bawa Jitto, General Zorawar Singh, Brig Rajinder Singh and others, who have struggled in their own way to carve out a place of honour for the people of Jammu”, Rana said.
The speakers highlighted the valour and selfless service of Mian Deedo and called upon the people, especially youth to imbibe the sprit and work for harmonious growth of the society.
On this occasion, Rana sanctioned Rs 5 lakh under Constituency Development Fund for raising a shed at the Devasthan and Rs 2 lakh for development of road leading to it.
Prominent among those present included Dharamvir Singh Jamwal, Rameshwar Dutt, Joginder Kumar, Asa Ram, Shail Singh, Prof Vijay Dev Singh, Mangal Singh, Mahinder Kumar, Kuldeep Singh, Rashid Malik and others.
