JAMMU, Jan 31: Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha today paid rich tributes to Major Somnath Sharma, the first recipient of Param Vir Chakra, on his 95th birth anniversary.
A function in this connection was organized at Brahman Sabha, Parade, under the chairmanship of Ved Parkash Sharma. A large number of people from different walks of life participated in the function.
While speaking on the occasion, the speakers highlighted the great sole of Major Somnath Sharma, who laid down his life while defending the Srinagar Airport from the attack of tribals in collaboration of Pak Army on November 3, 1947.
Tawi Andolan convener, Chander Mohan Sharma, who was chief guest in the function, also paid rich tributes to Major Somnath Sharma.
During the function, the Brahman Sabha also passed a resolution expressive its serious concern on the registering of FIR against the brave Army personal by the local administration at Shopian and unanimously condemned the same.
Seeking immediate withdrawal of the FIR, the Sabha also resolved that strict action against stone pelters should be taken by registering FIR against those who had become sore for the nation.
Among those,  who were also present on the occasion,  included Pt  Varinder Mohan Magotra, Nanak Chand Sharma, Advocate P C  Sharma, Subash Shastri, Jagan Nath Sharma, M L  Sharma, K L  Sharma, Pt  Somnath Sharma, Dr  Som Dutt Magotra, Surinder Sharma, Satpal Sharma, Gurdas Sharma, Girdhari Lal Sharma, Shiv Ram Sharma, Ramesh Sharma, Satpal Raina and others.
