Semi-ring road land owners protest, demand proper compensation

Srinagar, Dec 19: The Land Owners Welfare Committee of Srinagar semi-ring Road today protested and demanded appropriate compensation for their land.
The semi ring road is coming up in the next few years connecting outer Pampore highway with Manigam- Ganderbal via Wathoora, Chadoora -Budgam , Soibugh and Narbal, Sumbal , Lar Ganderbal. This semiring road project is around 60 km long and starts from GallandarPampore and ends at  Manigam  in Ganderbal. Lot of agriculture  land will be acquired in Pulwama , Budgam , some parts of Baramulla, Bandipora and Ganderbal districts.

Major affected district will be Budgam as around 4000 kanals of land will be acquired very soon . In Ganderbal 2341 Kanals of land will be acquired. The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) will be executing this project and it has been already directed to deposit the required funds into the accounts of respective Deputy Commissioners (DCs) so that process of payment of land compensation can be started.
The land owners demanded that the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) pays adequate compensation to the farmers / other persons whose land and property is acquired for construction of highways in other states of India which is 4 times in rural areas and 2 times in urban areas. Besides this they demanded that there should be proper compensation for fruit trees or other trees that will come in the way of construction of the highway.
They said that they took up this matter with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti , Revenue and Works Ministers thus demanded that Government should at any cost issue an ordinance for  a new version of Land Acquisition Act so that affected people get adequate compensation during acquisition process.
They demanded the Karewas not be used for land filling of the highway instead soil excavation should be mandatory undertaken from the Flood Spill Channel and around Wullar lake.
