UDHAMPUR, Dec 19: Demanding basic facilities at new bus stand Udhampur and black topping of the area to fill up the potholes, local shopkeepers held a protest demonstration against the district administration and Udhampur Municipal Committee (UMC).
The protesting shopkeepers raised slogans against the administration and drew attention towards bad condition of the bus stand area, which lacks basic facilities good road condition, water, lighting etc.
Besides basic facilities in the area, they were also demanding that all buses should ply from the new bus stand, which has been virtually left abandoned.
The shopkeepers alleged that four illegal bus stands and minibus stands were illegally operational due to alleged connivance of the administration, which was not taking action against the erring drivers.
They rued that despite making it operational in 2001, the bus stand was not properly shifted to the new site. They also demand an inquiry into the utilization of the money, released by then Director Local Bodies Jeet Lal Gupta for illumination of the new bus stand area.
