JAMMU, July 25: The residents of Arnia and adjoining areas observed bandh over unscheduled power cuts.
Large number of people including women and children from Ala, Karnal, Suhagpur and Arnia assembled near main town Arnia and blocked the road heading towards Jammu.
In protest against Power Development Department (PDD), the shopkeepers also closed down their business establishments.
Amid slogans against Power Development Department (PDD), the protesters demanded regular power supply.
The protesters alleged that the PDD is imposing unscheduled power cuts, which is creating problems for them in the ongoing hot humid weather conditions.
“We apprised the PDD officials various times about the miseries being faced by them on account of unscheduled power cuts, but they paid no need, which forced us to come on roads and held protest”, they added.
There is dire need to upgrade the existing power infrastructure, they said and warned to intensify their protest, if the issue of unscheduled power cuts are not resolved in two days.
After getting information, Tehsildar Arnia along with SHO Arnia Inspector Satish Kumar rushed to the spot and assured the protesting people of taking up the issue with the concerned authorities for early redressal.
On the assurance, the protesters dispersed and vehicular movement was restored.
