J&K Government has taken an innovative step of installing traffic signals in the Jammu as well as in the Srinagar city to make the traffic more organized. This is a bold step executed by the State Government in the wake of increasing traffic problems and large number of accident cases. This will also give some relaxation to our traffic authorities and also decrease their workload to some extent. But it is very sad that these traffic rules and regulations are not being fully followed by the people in our State. It’s often very surprising that even educated people sometimes violate these rules. Traffic authorities must be directed to take strict action against those who violate these rules. It can also be seen at some places that traffic signals are not fully operational or not working properly. This may be a cause of concern. Traffic awareness pro- grammes should be initiated by the Govt. and must be properly communicated to the general masses through the electronic and print media. It is our responsibility that we should follow these rules for the smooth functioning of the traffic.
