Electrician arrested for theft in shops, attempt to loot ATM

DODA, June 20: Police arrested an electrician for committing theft in two shops and making vain attempt to loot an ATM of a private bank, here today.
As per police sources, during the intervening night of June 19 and 20, some burglars broke open the shutters of two shops belonging to Yawar Zaffer Butt and Riaz Ahmed Thokar. The burglars succeeded in stealing Rs 80,000 from the shop of Yawer Zaffaer Butt. They also tried to loot ATM of HDFC Bank, but failed and dismantled the upper part of the ATM.
On getting information about the theft in shops and loot attempt at ATM, a case under FIR Number 134/17 under Section 457 and 380 RPC was registered at police station Doda and investigation started.
During the course of investigation, a suspect namely Jaffer Hussain, son of Abdul Hamid Mir of Beoli Doda was questioned and he confessed that he had committed the offence.
On his disclosure, stolen Rs 80,000 cash vis-à-vis weapons of offence including hammer, screw driver and iron rod were recovered.
The accused confessed that being an electrician by profession, he had installed more than 250 CCTV cameras in Doda town and used to snap the wire of the CCTV cameras before committing the offence to avoid himself from the gaze of the camera.
He also confessed that he had made abortive attempts to break open the shutters of J&K Bank and HDFC Bank located in Doda town a month before.
Further questioning of the accused is going on to ascertain his involvement in other theft cases.
Police team led by SHO Doda Inspector Raghbir Singh and assisted by Incharge District Hospital police post SI Ashiq Husain solved the burglary case and arrested the thief under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Doda Iftkhar Ahmed and SSP Doda Mohammad Shabir.
