SAMBA, June 7: People particularly youth of district Samba held a protest at Main Chowk Vijaypur near here today shouting slogans and demanding ban on sale of liquor in whole of district Samba.
The protestors also blocked the National Highway for one hour resulting into the problems to passengers and pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi.
The protestors said that they welcome the order to close wine shops and bars adjoining National Highway and demanded total ban on sale of liquor in entire Samba district. They said that by this step the society would be nuisance free and the new generation would be saved from becoming drunkards and indulge in unlawful activities. They said liquor and drug menace has ruined many families and people of Samba especially the youth will launch a campaign against the same and they will take it to the logical conclusion.
Later SDM, Vijaypur, Ravinder Sharma reached the spot and informed the protestors that he will convey the higher ups of their feelings and assured that the appropriate steps will be taken by the higher authorities in this regard. On the assurance of SDM they lifted the blockade of National Highway.
