SRINAGAR, May 26: First ever 5-day training programme for officers/officials of the Labour Department on Labour Laws organized by State Judicial Academy concluded today.
Resource persons of the programme Justice Hasnain Massodi, former Judge, High Court of Jammu and Kashmir, Abdul Rashid Malik, Director State Judicial Academy, Mohd. Yousuf Akhoon, Presiding Officer, Food Safety Appellate Tribunal, Dr G R Ghani, former Commissioner/Secretary to Government and Zahoor Ahmad Jan, Retd Regional Manager, SFC & Advocate, J&K High Court threadbare discussed different provisions and principles of labour jurisprudence.
They deliberated upon the concept of social justice as envisaged by the Constitution and the steps required to be taken by the Labour Courts and Tribunals including statutory authorities to ensure that labourers, workers, women and children have access to justice.
The training programme comprised of 20 working sessions and was designed to include varied topics of Labour Laws including Cannons of Judicial Ethics while discharging quasi-judicial functions, hearing of parties judicial ethics, providing of opportunity of being heard to women, children and disabled by the Labour Courts/Tribunals, the Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment & Conditions of Service Act, 1996, remedies available to the parties after the passing of awards by the Industrial Tribunals/Labour Courts and procedure adopted by Judicial and Quasi Judicial Authorities under Labour Laws etc.
Sarmad Hafeez, Labour Commissioner and Syed Muried Hussain Shah, CEO/Secretary, J&K Building and Other Construction Welfare Board also participated in the valedictory function and gave a detailed account of the steps taken by them to ensure effective implementation of Labour Laws.
