Govt responsible for loss of lives in Valley: NC

SRINAGAR, Apr 10: A delegation of National Conference led by Party general secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar and accompanied by senior leaders MA Lone, Nasir Aslam Wani, Showkat Ahmed Mir and Ishaq Qadri attended a meeting called by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) in Srinagar and said the PDP-BJP Government in the State was squarely responsible for the loss of precious lives and the current general atmosphere in the State.
Expressing profound grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives on the April 9, the NC delegation condemned the Government’s bid to use brutality and deliberately perpetuated circumstances to thwart the resounding and collective will of the people to punish the ruling dispensation for its policy of using brute force and barbarism against the people.
The NC delegation said the remarks of PDP’s Parliamentary candidate for Anantnag, Mufti Tassaduq Hussain was a clear and unambiguous indictment of his sister Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and her Government and her abject and total failure to govern the State. “Based on the fact that her own brother and her party’s Parliamentary candidate has clearly declared the PDP-BJP Government a complete failure, Mehbooba Mufti has lost the moral right to continue in her chair. The moment PDP made an emergency appeal for the deferment of elections in Anantnag, the PDP-BJP Government became untenable and illegitimate in the State. The Chief Minister should tender her resignation without any further delay”, the NC delegation said.
“PDP, due to its heinous role in suppressing the people, is facing imminent rout from the State and the party is now seeking an escape route. Where was the party’s conscience when National Conference repeatedly asked for the deferment of elections and categorically said the situation in the State was not conducive for the conduct of polls? At that time PDP opposed the general and overwhelming political consensus in the State and went against the grain of public opinion and the prevailing ground situation. Today, their stand is purely and only based on the fact that they have realized that their decimation is a foregone conclusion”, the NC delegation said.
The NC delegation also highlighted the inherent contradiction by PDP’s demonstrated by the fact that it has now accepted writing an earlier letter almost a month ago to the Election Commission seeking deferment of elections but chose not to inform the media about that communication while the party ignored a political consensus in the State about the current situation not being conducive for the conduct of elections.
