Notorious narco smuggler nabbed with 1 kg cannabis

JAMMU, Mar 31: Gangyal police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ nabbed a notorious narcotic smuggler along with one kilogram cannabis (charas).
As per police sources, based on specific information, a team from Gangyal police station laid a naka near Kunjwani Chowk and asked a person carrying black polythene bag to stop for checking as he was hiding himself after seeing the police cops. The person tried to escape, but the cops overpowered him after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered one kilogram cannabis (charas) from the black polythene bag, which was being carried by the person. Police arrested the drug peddler and seized the consignment.
The accused has been identified as Ajay Kumar alias Kaka, son of late Chuni Lal, a resident of Lower Jallo Chak.
The accused was a habitual narcotics smuggler and with his arrest the Gangyal police has achieved a major success to curb the menace of drug abuse among the youth.
A case under FIR Number 25/17 under Section 8/20 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at police station Gangyal and further questioning of the accused is going on to ascertain the source of consignment and names of his associates involved in this drugs trade.
Police team led by SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas and assisted by SHO Gangyal Inspector Aejaz Wani made the arrest under the supervision of SP South Sandeep Chowdhary.
