Sir,
While reviewing the functioning of Department of Information & Public Relations, the Director, Dr Shahid Iqbal Chaudhary has called for making the Department, ‘A vibrant institution’.
However, I want to suggest here that the Department’s literary activities calendar should also be keenly reviewed, revised and activated earnestly. It is sorry state of affairs that the Department’s activities like holding multilingual Mushairas (Poetic events), Afsana (short story) telling and the like particularly in Udhampur are at the zero ebb. Not even a single event has been organized here since long on the lame pretext of ‘No Funds”. If it is so then the flaw has to be removed forthwith. It is painful to note that none seems interested in the administrative circles, where each and every member is highly educated, towards such literary activities. The potential of such kind having great value is dying in Udhampur due to the step-motherly attitude of the elite the helm of affairs.
It is also pertinent to voice here that in our multilingual and multicultural state J&K the literary and cultural activities at large scale are imperative for promoting and strengthening the ages old sacred bonds of mutual love, understanding, tolerance, communal harmony and patriotism among the people of all shades. J&K is undoubtedly a towering symbol of unity, brotherhood, nationalism and peace. This pride, beauty and strength has to be conserved and explored by all means. The literary practice is one of most effective ways to do so. It would add charm to our uniquely composite society. And it is the dire need of present times.
Yours etc….
