Five day -long annual Gangbal yatra concludes

SRINAGAR, Sept 25: The five day long 4th annual Gangbal yatra concluded today with all the 90 yatris who had trekked to 14,500 feet Harmukh Ganga hill reaching here this evening.
The Charri Mubarak to this ancient Hindu shrine having the religious significance of Ganga as per scriptures has been in existence since Puranic period with devotees trekking the hill on Gang Ashtami to perform darshan of the holy lake and religious rituals of the  dead.
The yatra was led by All Parties Migrant Coordination Committee (APMCC) chairman Vinod Pandit who has restarted it in 2009 after it was in oblivion for 18 long years of turmoil.
The holy mace left from here on September 21. Swami Kumar Ji of Geeta Santsang Ashram Muthi also accompanied it among other devotees. After a night halt at Naran Nag, Kangan in Ganderbal district the base camp of the yatra, the pilgrims left for the holy Gangbal early in the morning and reached there in the evening. They had a holy dip in the Gangbal lake. A  hawan was also performed on the occasion of Gangashtami falling on September 23. Swami Kumar Ji performed Ganga Aarti on the occasion and highlighted the religious significance of the Gangbal Teerath.
Lt Gen Om Parkash of 15 Corps was also present on the occasion. The Army provided all logistic support to organizers.
