8-day long training course on Climate Variability concludes at SKUAST-J

JAMMU, Sept 25: The eight -day long Model Training Course on Climate Variability and its impact on crop production concluded at Main Campus of SKUAST at Chatta on Monday.
The training course had started on September 17. It was sponsored by Department of Agriculture & Cooperation Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, Jammu. Twenty participants across the country participated in the training camp. They were from   Punjab, HP, Haryana, Gujarat, Jharkhand, J&K and Udishsa.
Prof D K Arora, Vice Chancellor SKUAST -J was the chief guest in the valedictory session. He stressed on taking up an action plan in hand to mitigate the effect of biotic and abiotic stress that are likely to aggravate due to global warming.
He emphasized that crop contingency plans have to be devised taking into account the traditional wisdom of the farmers and the indigenous technical knowledge. While deliberating on the topic Prof Arora stressed on the scientists to have sustainable farming systems approach which can ensure food and livelihood security to the poor farming community.
He also emphasized to have new farming system simulation models which can use available natural resources for the upliftment of farming community.
Dr M K Khushu Chief Scientist and Head Agro -Meteorology Centre and Course Director of this Model Training Programme in his welcome address informed the house about the topics of lectures and stressed to develop strategies which could help in mitigation and adaptation to climate change.
On the occasion Rolta India Pvt Ltd gave a presentation and demonstration on Application of GIS and Remote Sensing in Agriculture and made participants aware about the new models.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Vivak Manohar Arya and stage was managed by Dr P K Rai.
