2825 Kg Lahan, illicit liquor recovered

JAMMU, July 16: Two persons were arrested whereas a large quantity of Lahan and illicit liquor was recovered and damaged by Excise sleuths in districts Kathua and Jammu.
The Excise sleuths of Kathua Excise Range along with the Excise Eradication Wing Jammu conducted a series of raids in district Kathua under the command of ETO, Kathua Excise Range, Sandeep Gupta and ETO Eradication, Jammu, Suresh Sharma to arrest the menace of illicit distillation of liquor.
The team conducted series of raids in villages Keengdayal, Sitdayal, Tarafsanji, Tanda, Jeerai, Jakhbardambra, Barnoti, Dhabwal, Chabachak, Banyari, Budhi, Saktachak, Veersochak, Kothyal and adjoining areas.
The Excise team of Excise Range (South) Jammu also conducted similar raids in RS Pura and Bishnah areas of Jammu district. The areas raided include Deoli, Makhanpur, Dablehar, Tarachak, Salehar, Phinder and adjoining areas of RS Pura and Bishnah.
In the process, 2825 Kg of Lahan, 137 bottles and 269 pouches of illicit liquor prepared from Lahan, which is highly injurious to health, was recovered by the raiding teams and later destroyed on spot.
Two working stalls used for preparation of illicit liquor, one by team Kathua and one by team Excise South Jammu, was also recovered and destroyed on spot. Two persons namely Rakesh Kumar son of Amar Nath of Barnoti (Kathua) and Bittu Lal son of Ram Lal Sansi of Tarachak (RS) Pura were arrested under Section 48 of the J&K Excise Act, 1958.
