BOPEE deprives candidates from admissions

JAMMU, June 20: Due to failure of the Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) in getting the counseling schedule circulated properly and timely, a number of meritorious candidates were deprived from getting admission in the Engineering Colleges and course of their choice.
The schedule of counseling for admission in Engineering courses, which began from June 17, was not advertised in the leading newspapers while the candidates also could not know about the same because of no access to the BOPEE website in the wake of internet ban for four successive days following sacrilegious acts in Jammu.
A number of aggrieved candidates and their parents, who approached the Excelsior office, complained that the they missed the particular day fixed for their counseling and ultimately the college as well as course of their choice.
“The concerned authorities were well aware of the fact that there was no internet service in Jammu since June 14 evening when notification for the counseling schedule was uploaded on the website of BOPEE, they could have conveyed about the same through leading newspapers or even SMS on mobile phones of the candidates,” the aggrieved candidates said.
“On June 18, when we reached the office of BOPEE at Bahu Plaze for seeking to know about the commencement of counseling and its schedule, the authorities informed that the process was already going on since June 17 and we had missed the same,” said father of a female candidate, whose number in the merit list was among toppers but she could not get admission in Government College of Engineering because of non-seriousness of BOPEE.
Similarly, a number of other meritorious candidates also could not appear for counseling on the scheduled date and thus missed the opportunity, particularly on the first day, to get admission in college as well as subjects of their choice.
On June 17, first day of the schedule, candidates ranking from one to 400 were invited for counseling.
The aggrieved candidates have appealed the Government to take cognizance of their grievance and issue necessary instruction to the BOPEE for rectifying the mistake and provide them an opportunity to get admission in accordance to their merit and choice.
