JAMMU, June 15: Former Minister and State president of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Thakur Randhir Singh, while inaugurating week long celebrations of 18th foundation day of NCP here, highlighted the sacrifices of his great grandfather General Tehal Singh and demanded re-writing the history of freedom fighters.
While addressing Thakur Randhir Singh said this foundation day is being celebrated at a time when growing intolerance and the arrogance of the ruling party was posing a great threat to the socialist, secular and democratic setup of the society as envisaged in the constitution of the country.
The State NCP demanded fresh delimitation commission from Government of India to do justice with the regions of Jammu and Ladakh, which are clamouring for justice for the last so many years for independent status.
The NCO working committee through a resolution also demanded strengthening of Right To Information Act. Mr Singh said all the previous Governments have failed to suitably amend and enforce the RTA because it has more to hide than reveal. He also called for declaring Jammu and Kashmir as Herbal State like Chhattisgarh and Uttarakhand where the growers are paid 20% subsidy by the National Horticulture Board, Government of India.
He demanded that minimum wages act be implemented in the State and there should be proper management of Provident Fund of the workers. He also urged the State Government that stringent measures be taken for eradication of corruption to ensure that benefits of the schemes reach to the people at the earliest. He also called for strengthening of State Accountability Commission and Vigilance Commission.
