Pre-budget suggestions ignored by Govt: FORA

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, June 2: Federation of  Retailers Association has alleged that suggestions given by the trade bodies during pre-budget meetings have been totally  ignored by the  present Coalition PDP-BJP Government.
In a meeting of the Federation, its president Yash Paul Gupta said that Government holds meetings with various trade organizations and the other stakeholders before the preparation of the Budget.    Many suggestions are given during these interactions  to apprise of the Government about the aspirations and problems of the people, besides traders and industrialists.  But it is unfortunate that none of these suggestions have been paid heed to them.
Mr Gupta said it was persistent demand of the of the traders that the rates of VAT in the State should be at par with the adjoining States but the Finance Department ignored the same. While objecting to the hike in Toll Tax Mr Gupta said that Toll Tax is already very high  and any increase in this tax will not only give rise to the corruption but will prove counter productive because most of the States have totally done away with any kind of such tax. He said the efforts are being made to introduce GST in the country which will bring uniform  tax structure  throughout  the country  and the Government should have waited till then.
The Federation further urged upon the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and the Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu to  consider the suggestions given to the Government  during pre-budget meeting.
