LIFF to be annual event in Ladakh’s calendar: CEC

LEH, Sept 19 : Considering making ‘Ladakh International Film Festival’ an annual feature in Ladakh’s calendar, CEC LAHDC Rigzin Spalbar convened a meeting to evaluate the possibilities and potentials in organizing the LIFF in a much expanded and celebrated manner from next year taking lessons from the first ever LIFF hosted in Leh with immense contribution from LAHDC.
“Our main aim behind permitting Leh to be the venue for LIFF was to provide the Ladakhi films and film makers a platform to showcase their talent and gain experience in the fields so as to make them confident and competent in future, besides bringing Ladakh at par with rest of the world by exposing its creativity on international platform,” asserted Spalbar.
The organizers of LIFF 2012, Melwyn Williams and Megna Dubey, who were also present in the meeting, accepted their shortcomings in organizing the event but assured to take lessons from it and systematize the event from next year to give equal opportunity and recognition to the local film makers and films.
During the meeting, Ladakh Media and Entertainment Organization President Jigmet Angchuk complained about the shallow commitments made by the organizers and neglecting the local film makers by not giving the desired attention and importance to their contribution in making LIFF a successful event.
Veteran film maker of Ladakh, Phuntsog Ladakhi appreciated Council for the novel step in organizing the first ever International Film Festival in Ladakh and set an aspiration for the younger film makers from the region.
EC Tourism Gurmet Dorjey was among others who attended the meeting.
