JAMMU, May 28: To stop the menace of illicit distillation of liquor, the Excise sleuths of Kathua Excise Range along with Eradication Wing Jammu conducted a series of raids in villages of district Kathua and Jammu and destroyed 1600 Kg of Lahan, 39 bottles and 140 pouches of illicit liquor prepared from Lahan.
The raids were conducted in district Kathua under the command of ETO, Kathua Excise Range, Sandeep Gupta and ETO Eradication, Jammu. The team conducted raids in villages Sherpur, Dhabwal, Saktachak, Barnoti, Banyari, Chartyale, Budhi and adjoining areas.
Further, the Excise sleuths of Excise Range Jammu South along with the Excise Eradication Wing Jammu conducted a series of raids in RS Pura and Bishnah areas under the command of ETO, Jammu South Excise Range, Nayeem Mughal and ETO Eradication, Jammu. The team conducted raids in villages Deoli, Makhanpur, Tarachak, Haslachak, Shibuchak, Shiekhpura, Kotla, and adjoining areas.
In the process 1600 Kg of Lahan, 39 bottles, 140 pouches illicit liquor prepared from Lahan, which is highly injurious to health, was recovered by the raiding teams and destroyed on spot. One working still was also destroyed by the raiding team in RS Pura area.
Meanwhile, the Excise sleuths of Doda-Kishtwar-Ramban Excise Range on a specific complaint of poppy cultivation in the area raided the higher reaches of Chatroo (Passerkote). The team under the command of Excise Inspector, Towsif Mustafa conducted the raid and in the process poppy crop on five kanals of land was destroyed.
