JAMMU, Sept 17: National Panthers Party has strongly opposed the Foreign Direct Investment in retail and resolved to stage protest demonstration on Sept 20 in response to ‘Bharat Bandh’ call.
In a meeting of the NPP held here today, its working chairman Harsh Dev Singh (MLA) strongly condemned the move of the UPA Government to give nod to FDI in retail sector. He said country’s small businessmen will be badly hit with this step. While fully supporting `Bharat Bandh’ call on September 20, Mr Singh declared that his party would stage protest demonstration at state level.
Mr Singh also resented recent hike in the prices of petroleum products and said that it has badly hit the common man. He alleged that UPA Government has failed to control the prices of essential commodities. This Government has failed to protect the interests of the economically weaker and marginalized sections of society, he added.
Describing the present scenario as worst economic disaster, Mr Singh demanded immediate roll back of diesel prices as well as on FDI policy. He said such decisions are fraught with dangerous portends as it has been initiated at the behest of Multi-National companies who want control over the Indian market and ultimately influence the Indian policy. He termed the decision as ill conceived and said that marginal Indian trader would be pitted against the powerful MNCs. The party legislators and other senior leaders attended the meeting.
