LEH, Sept 8: The 8-day long Ladakh Festival concluded at Polo Ground here and Governor of Punjab, Shiv Raj Patil was the chief guest at the valedictory function.
Speaking on the occasion, Patel said, “culture has a pivotal role to play in strengthening bonds between different communities and regions and is a powerful medium to keep the people together. So, it becomes very imperative to preserve ones culture”, adding “I’m very pleased to see how well the Ladakhis have preserved their age old cultural legacy”.
He asked the tourists to become the ambassador of Ladakh and apprise the people of their respective areas about the natural and human beauty of this place in order to help in getting more tourists to the region.
“When Ladakh was first opened to tourists in 1974, the tourist season was less than two months with countable number of tourists visiting the region but today we have around 1,80,000 tourist both national and international coming to Leh, which is a very good sign for sustainable tourism industry in Ladakh,” asserted Chief Executive Councilor of LAHDC Leh, Rigjin Spalbar.
“The main objective of celebrating Ladakh Festival was to lengthen the tourist season”, he said, adding “we have been successful in achieving our target and this industry is going to get more viable in years to come.”
Deputy Commissioner Leh Tsering Angchok delivered the vote of thanks.
